Alpha is finished!

This week we finished alpha, the first stage of our development process. The goal for this stage was to have a playable demo of the game with some art assets and mechanics featuring. To do this our designers made a quick practice level which can be seen in the video below.

The features I worked on from the alpha video above include the movement of the camera, the mechanic systems including burrowing under the log, climbing onto and down from the rocks, jumping from one rock to another and moving the object around and finally the movement of the two characters although this was just a temporary piece of code.

The most complicated section of this was the push pull mechanic as it brought far more bugs than expected do to the wall collisions and attempted physics resolutions, however the final solution ended up no longer using physics.

Next week we will be beginning the next stage of the project known as beta. In this stage we will mostly be trying to improve the quality of the current mechanics as well as bringing in some proper movement and animations.
